Performance for one spectator
Solitarian reading:
The “reader/spectator” is invited to open and modify the darkroom created for the Martial Canterel’ s timecaps*.
This is a blackbox made by sounds, images, human presences and the spectator’ s imagination completely
included in the process of expression.
In this space, fictions, actualities and desires could meet physically. It is the attempt of an individual and
contemporary encounter with Locus Solus proposed in a plural and multimedia reading inspired by the complex
reception of today.
“I was waiting alone(s)…” is the experiment of an evolutive, increased and embodied book !
*a time capsule is a historic and collective saving of goods or information, usually intended as a method of
communication with future people.This gathering could reveal later what was the subjectivity of the time into
the caps.
kom.post is an artistic process wich reactivates what is normally left aside

Locus Solus through kom.post (compost: a process which reactivates, with the very conditions of the here and now,
what is normally left aside)
A revitalization of this eternal experiment: the solitarian reading.
In our “multi epoch” (multimedia, multilayers of communication, multilevel of existence….) how/where can we still
found the “solus”? still found a personal experiment, a subjective place WITHOUT going out of this world and using
an obsolete and already dead language?
Let’s follow Roussel’s lesson: in order to encounter this complex and various site created by Martial Canterel, he
chooses the way not of the simplification but of the “internal complexification”. He redoubles the multiplicity of this
world by proposing a “multireading” of it in any of its part. For each station, each “machine”, the guide will give a
description of the “seen”, the mention of the eventual “to be seen”, the imagination of the potential hidden, the
explication of the hidden and the commentary of this passage: from the secret to the exposed…
… and even more!
More, because the text doesn’t stand by itself: it doesn’t exist in the discourse and the book only, but it is always in
this “non localized space’ which appears and becomes a living one when the reader joins the game. The space is left
for him as for the ingredient necessary to the effectiveness of the recipe. He is desired by the writing as the vitalium is
expected by the resurectine in order to deploy all its possibility of revitalization. In any aspect of his work, the
complexity of Roussel is not one of the many, of the pure addition but of the various and the multi, of the different
stratums composed by objects, entities but also by holes.
And this is the place Roussel builds for the reader, for this subjective and unique regard which is the most complex
element of the whole process of writing.
“Locus Solus”: the unique site- the lonely place – the complex place that one always meets alone- that you meet in
a unique experiment
OR/AND
the solitarian experiment which makes the space- which opens the complex space of its unique subjectivity- which
take for very intimate fellow traveler this strangest partner: his own imagination.
Imagination: The most complex level in the Simplest site, the one of the individual: “Solus Locus”
And this is where we would like to place our kom.post since it will use the complexity of the subjectivity to create the
material of its proposition. A unique encounter with Locus Solus proposed in a plural and multimedia reading
inspired by the complex reception of today. Nowadays, to read is not only done by words but goes more and more
through pictures, sounds, noises, real and virtual presences…It goes through sense and senses.
Each day of the exhibition in Benaki Museum, an interdisciplinary group will create a dispositive for ONE spectator
where, called in his very subjectivity, he would have to create his own route towards the complex presentation
proposed in respect to Roussel’s balance. The combination of these permanent elements (the seen, the mentioned, the
“sous entendu”, the connoted, the commented, the caption (in French : “légende” is both the explanation and the
legenda, the fiction)) will change each time a new element would enter. The spectator with his very solus locus will
give the necessary material to let happen what we all are, today as for any time, looking for: the unique and eternal
possibility of communication, of someone speaking to someone else and giving a piece of eternity to his extreme
